About The Position

We are currently seeking a Controller in Montreal, Quebec who is a detail-oriented, hands-on finance leader with a proven ability to manage the full accounting cycle in a fast-growing, international consulting environment. The Controller will be responsible for producing accurate financial statements, ensuring multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, and overseeing payroll, invoicing, and banking operations across multiple currencies. You will manage and mentor the accounting team, including coordination with international resources, and act as a key financial partner to leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives such as acquisitions. As a hands-on controller, you excel at balancing day-to-day accounting rigor with process optimization and KPI tracking, and you understand the evolving needs of a scaling professional services business.

Requirements

  • CPA designation required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience in a Controller or senior accounting role
  • Experience managing multi-jurisdictional tax compliance and multi-currency operations
  • Proven experience with cloud-based accounting systems
  • Experience overseeing or coordinating payroll, including international contractor payments
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring an accounting team
  • Excellent attention to detail and takes pride in the quality and accuracy of work delivered
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once
  • Polished written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead the production of annual financial statements, prepare audit files, and collaborate with external auditors on year-end analysis
  • Ensure compliance with tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions and coordinate local requirements with the appropriate resources
  • Manage and support the accounting team, including coordination with international resources
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable and receivable, using a cloud-based accounting system
  • Drive optimization of financial processes and track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Manage tax credit and grant activities, particularly those related to innovation and technology development
  • Perform or oversee bank reconciliations across multiple currencies
  • Coordinate legal and administrative activities, including liaising with external partners and supporting contractual agreements
  • Oversee Canadian payroll processes and coordinate payments for employees and contractors internationally
  • Manage invoicing, including validation, coding, and transaction processing
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, including acquisition projects, financial analysis, and integration
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process, financial forecasts, and periodic variance tracking
  • Work closely with leadership and operational teams to provide reliable financial information
  • Maintain up-to-date administrative records and collaborate with HR on employee data management
