The Automotive Controller is responsible for reporting the financial condition of the total dealership to the dealer/general manager regularly and accurately. This role provides sales and expense analyses, summarizing potential problem areas and opportunities for improved profitability relative to monthly and annual forecasts. The Controller prepares a complete financial statement monthly according to dealership guidelines and within each manufacturer's format and time frame, ensuring all manufacturer accounts are current and accurate. They interpret the financial statement and daily operating control (DOC) regularly, informing the dealer of developing trends. The position participates in the preparation of short- and long-term financial forecasts, provides department managers with detailed financial and management reports, and maintains an effective cash management system. Responsibilities include directing the assessment of depreciation rates, reviewing the general ledger and scheduled accounts, and investigating unusual entries. The Controller also reviews the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, stays abreast of tax code revisions, and ensures compliance with all government finance regulations. Management of the dealership computer system, administration of a loss review program, and evaluation of insurance renewals are also key duties. The role coordinates annual audits and physical inventories, supervises office personnel to ensure proper accounting procedures and accurate records, and strives to improve data integrity throughout the dealership. Attendance at managers meetings and maintaining a professional appearance are expected, along with performing other assigned tasks.
