About The Position

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance functions for a large orthopedic practice. This role ensures accurate financial operations across professional services and ancillary entities while supporting strategic decision-making, physician compensation models, and operational efficiency. Reporting to the CEO, the Controller works closely with executive leadership, physicians, and department heads to maintain financial integrity and support growth. We are a progressive, friendly private physician group practice with multiple locations on the sunny east coast of South Florida. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field
  • > 7 years progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Prior Controller or Senior Accounting Manager experience
  • Experience leading month-end close in a multi-entity healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with physician compensation models and productivity reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and healthcare practice management software
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Proven ability to clean up, standardize, and automate accounting processes

Responsibilities

  • Financial Management & Reporting
  • Oversee all general ledger activities, month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for the practice and all related entities (Imaging, PT, DME, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean and consistent chart of accounts
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) leadership to ensure accurate posting, reconciliation, and reporting of revenue
  • Physician Compensation & Productivity
  • Ensure accurate calculation of physician compensation based on approved methodologies and validated financial data
  • Prepare detailed physician financial reports
  • Accounting Operations Leadership
  • Lead and develop the accounting team
  • Standardize processes and enforce close checklists and reconciliation protocols
  • Reduce manual processes through automation and system improvements
  • Cash & Balance Sheet Integrity
  • Ensure daily cash activity is reconciled and accurate
  • Maintain balance sheet schedules and reconciliations
  • Identify cash timing issues and anomalies
  • Partner with leadership on cash visibility
  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Lead accounting-side implementation of automation tools (AP, close management, reconciliations)
  • Improve data integrity between EMR, billing, payroll, and GL systems
  • Reduce reliance on spreadsheets through system-based controls
  • Compliance, Audit & Regulatory
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and cost reports with external auditors and advisors
  • Support compliance with Medicare/Medicaid regulations and state healthcare financial requirements

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, IT, and clinical leadership
