About The Position

The Controller will plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting. This role involves reviewing and analyzing general ledger activity, managing financial data accumulation, communicating with other departments regarding budget discrepancies, and assisting with year-end preparations and external reporting. The Controller will also assess current accounting operations, recommend improvements, implement new processes, and develop consistent accounting policies. Additionally, this position supports the CFO in preparing budgets, evaluating resident financial capabilities, and representing the accounting department before the Board of Directors and other stakeholders in the CFO's absence. Staying current with accounting practices, laws, and industry trends is crucial, as is providing direct supervision and development for the accounting department staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance required.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in Life Plan Community or other healthcare operations.
  • 3-5 years of accounting staff supervision required.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • ERP, GL design, payroll, and GAAP experience required.
  • Knowledge of long-term care reporting, collections, & reimbursement requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
  • Review and analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completeness; investigate budge variances and prepare or approve adjusting journal entries as necessary.
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Communicate with other departments on budget discrepancies and expense items.
  • Assist in preparation of data needed at year-end, as well as various annual and quarterly reporting to outside agencies.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Develop and implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs consistent with current accounting standards as well as applicable law.
  • Assist CFO with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets and coordinate departmental budget information.
  • Assist CFO with evaluation of prospective residents’ ability to meet the financial criteria for admission.
  • In absences of CFO, represent the accounting department before the Board of Directors, department leaders, and residents, which includes presenting financial reports, budget updates, and organizational financial performance.
  • Remain current in knowledge of applicable accounting practices, laws governing accounting practices as well as industry trends.
  • Provide direct supervision, direction and development of accounting department staff in coordination with CFO.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
