About The Position

Job Summary: The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls. This role plays a critical part in preparing the organization for audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and financial transparency in support of strategic initiatives such as a monetization event or IPO.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting; experience in a high-growth or pre-IPO environment preferred.
  • Leadership experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, internal controls, and audit processes.
  • Complete all required training as assigned.
  • Ability to work full-time (average of 40+ hours per week).
  • Ability to work in a shared office, private office, and/or cubicle in accordance with job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to be on location and/or assigned confidential location(s) for client services for all work hours.
  • Effective with shifting roles, responsibilities, and expectations in a changing work environment.
  • Ability to see computer screen, read, and complete forms
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds with the ability to push, pull, bend, reach, and sit.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for financial reporting, ensuring preparation and accuracy of company financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements.
  • Present financial results and insights to the board, executives and shareholders on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close.
  • Coordinate and manage tax filings and shareholder distributions.
  • Ensure the financial reports are prepared in compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
  • Lead the development of annual budgeting process with stakeholders and executive team, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to achieve the Company’s financial goals.
  • Monitor performance against the budget and identify variances, make recommendations to ensure efficiency thresholds.
  • Reforecast quarterly against the budget and adjust based on market conditions and/or Company performance.
  • Develop financial models that assess business opportunities, considering revenue and expense thresholds as well as the target net income, returns, or interest rate return expectations that support the financial strategy of the company.
  • Monitor and manage the Company’s cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity to meet obligations, including payroll, vendors, investors and partners. Develop balance sheet strategies that engage capital market partners, or funding participants.
  • Present recommendations to the board/executives, including adjustments to strategy to optimize cash flow management and ensuring necessary working capital and/or cash reserves to support day-to-day operations and strategic investments.
  • Develop SG&A thresholds to ensure performance against the strategy and objectives of the Company. Manage the company’s borrowing base requirements, exposure limitations, and allocations based on warehouse facility requirements and covenants.
  • Serves as a key contact point for Warehouse Facility providers or Capital Market Partners.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures and strong financial controls, in accordance with GAAP, to prevent fraud, errors, and mismanagement of funds.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and accounting standards including filing taxes, facilitating third party audits, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure audits are conducted properly and that any findings are fully remediated.
  • Lead the Accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity and accountability.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Play active role in department and/or organization development and staff development.
  • Invest time, interest, and effort in team development activities; hold regular supervision meetings with team members; provide feedback and coaching; and ensure team member individual development goals are in place and reviewed periodically throughout the fiscal year. Lead by example and appropriately direct, coach, support, and delegate to team members.
