About The Position

The Controller is the Operational Finance Leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial information at Tri County Metals. This role oversees accounting operations, internal controls financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and operational financial analysis. The Controller partners closely with the Director of Finance, Integrator, and Leadership Team to deliver reliable financial data, meaningful insights, and disciplined financial processes that support organizational decision-making. As a Lead/Leader at Tri County Metals Leadership & Team Development Lead the Finance Team using EOS-aligned LMA (Lead, Manage & Hold Accountable). Conduct monthly 1:1s, quarterly touch-bases, and annual reviews with each team member. Identify training needs and ensure cross-training for coverage and capability. Reinforce TCM’s core values (Do Your PART) and The TCM Way in all interactions. Operating Rythm Lead weekly Finance L10 meetings with accurate KPIs and clear issue identification. Ensure weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial deliverables are completed on time. Maintain consistent communication rhythm with the Director of Finance and Integrator. Financial Operations & Reporting Own the monthly close process; deliver accurate, complete financial statements by the 5th business day. Prepare timely and accurate reconciliations of all Trial Balance accounts. Develop and maintain a standardized month-end reporting package, including: Income Statement Balance Sheet Cash overview KPI results Variance analysis Narrative insights Identify financial trends, unusual items, and risks; communicate recommended actions. Audit entries in the accounting system and follow up on anomalies. Provide accurate financial reports to the Director of Finance and Leadership Team. Operational Finance Leadership Monitor and analyze Income Statement lines to identify opportunities to improve margins and control costs. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Provide actionable insights to leadership based on KPI, margin, and cost analysis. Track and interpret key financial KPIs weekly. Payroll, Tax & Compliance Oversee weekly payroll accuracy and completion. Confirm federal and state tax deposits and filings accurately and on time. Prepare and file timely sales tax returns. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting requirements. Accounts Payable & Vendor Management Review and approve vendor invoices in a timely manner. Capture early-pay discounts and follow up on any missed opportunities. Maintain complete and accurate vendor files. Inventory & Cost Controls Oversee the annual physical inventory count; ensure accuracy for financial reporting and tax filings. Monitor Income Statement line items and identify opportunities to reduce costs or increase margins. Provide branch-level financial insights to support the regional model. Internal Controls, Compliance & Professionalism Maintain strong internal controls across all accounting and reporting processes. Ensure adherence to all company policies, SOPs, and regulatory standards. Uphold a professional demeanor with employees, vendors, customers, and external stakeholders. Operational Finance Identify cost-saving opportunities and margin improvements. Provide proactive financial insights to the CFO and Leadership Team. Maintain KPI dashboards and improve their quality over time. Leadership Execution Deliver 1:1s, quarterly touch-bases, and annual reviews consistently. Maintain high team accountability and clear expectations. Ensure cross-training and continuity of financial operations.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting Finance or related field (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience (preferred)
  • Experience with payroll, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
