About The Position

Lenape Valley Foundation (LVF) is a mission-driven nonprofit healthcare organization serving individuals with mental health, substance use, and developmental needs. We are seeking an experienced Controller to provide strong accounting leadership and financial stewardship in a complex behavioral health environment. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and functions as a key financial leader within the organization. The Controller is responsible for the integrity of LVF’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls- partnering closely with senior leadership to support informed decision-making and long-term sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Progressive accounting experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience with audits, grants, and multi-funding-source compliance
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights
  • Prior experience leading and mentoring accounting staff
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, with or without accommodations

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree a plus
  • CPA or CMA strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting functions, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and long-range financial planning
  • Support annual audits and act as a primary liaison with external auditors
  • Oversee fiscal compliance related to government funding, grants, and contracts
  • Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and controls to support organizational growth
  • Lead and develop a professional accounting team, fostering collaboration and accountability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support program leadership with meaningful financial insight
