About The Position

CRM Rental Management, Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and support the financial health of a growing affordable housing portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and internal controls, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing regulations and funding structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience in affordable housing, real estate, or property management accounting strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with LIHTC, HUD programs, and multi-entity accounting structures
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a 7-year background check.
  • We also conduct pre-employment drug testing. Any job offer will be based on the results of background and drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage financial reporting for multiple properties, entities, and funding sources (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, and other subsidies)
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, lender agreements, and investor reporting standards
  • Lead annual audits and coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
  • Partner with asset management and development teams to analyze project performance
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
