About The Position

CRM Rental Management, Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and support the financial health of a growing affordable housing portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and internal controls, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing regulations and funding structures.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Experience in affordable housing, real estate, or property management accounting strongly preferred
Familiarity with LIHTC, HUD programs, and multi-entity accounting structures
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Proficiency in accounting software
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Must be able to pass a 7-year background check.

Responsibilities

Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Manage financial reporting for multiple properties, entities, and funding sources (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, and other subsidies)
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, lender agreements, and investor reporting standards
Lead annual audits and coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers
Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
Partner with asset management and development teams to analyze project performance
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
