About The Position

The Control Systems Specialist/Engineer provides control system development and support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. This role commissions new facilities and troubleshoots and supports existing systems. This job is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT and Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations. The incumbent works under limited supervision and performs a full range of responsibilities within the Controls Technology group. The position requires the ability to deal with anomalies on a regular basis, applying advanced principles/theories/concepts in the applicable discipline, plus a good working knowledge of other related fields. The role compiles, examines, or analyzes information and provides resolutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex problems/issues where an evaluation of identifiable factors is regularly required. Work is generally evaluated on completion to ensure objectives have been met. This role involves on-call support with rotating shifts and up to 30% travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Technical or engineering degree preferred
  • Substantial direct experience in lieu of a degree may be considered
  • 3 - 5 years related work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of: PLC and HMI platforms
  • Knowledge of: Computer systems utilized in OT/ICS environments, including software management, industrial communication protocols, common programming languages, and database configuration
  • Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing in English
  • Ability to: work under time pressure, tight deadlines and interruptions

  • Ability to: organize and/or analyze information and identify solutions from a range of alternatives

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops industrial control system solutions including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs to address operational needs for new construction projects, maintenance projects or operational requests.
  • Provide assistance and analysis regarding industrial control systems to commercial, operations and engineering.
  • Investigates new technology, along with methods to reduce hardware costs and labor expenses as it relates to automation.
  • Ensure compliance with company Cybersecurity efforts through evaluation, configuration and deployment of secure solutions for Operation Technology (OT) devices.
  • Provides automation solution estimates to project managers, facility engineers, and others.
  • Provide creative engineered designs for PLC programming.
  • Provide project management and oversight for assigned projects, including expansion, regulatory and modification projects at ONEOK.
  • Follow Project Life Cycle and OMS to ensure that all projects meet quality, cost and schedule objectives.
  • Develop and present training for Operations on new or specialized equipment installed as part of project deployment.
  • Provides Tier 2 support for Operations technician role, including technical support for control systems, instrumentation and equipment.
  • Provide programming, commissioning and troubleshooting support for loading rack electronic presets (Accuload).
  • Provides technical support for flowcomputer equipment (Omni).
  • Provides commissioning and troubleshooting assistance with network, serial and wireless communication systems utilized for facility operation.
  • Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline.
