Caterpillar’s Earth Moving division is hiring for Control Systems Engineer in Peoria, IL! Role Summary: The Caterpillar Motor Grader team is hiring a Controls Systems Engineer to advance Machine Safety, Productivity, and Autonomy solutions, supporting Caterpillar’s Advanced Technology initiative. The Motor Grader Performance & Controls team plays a critical role in delivering these solutions through a customer back approach and close collaboration with Caterpillar Technology teams. This role will focus on the development and integration of Autonomy and Productivity capabilities, aligned with the Motor Grader technology roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
  • Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and/or experience with machine dynamics and kinematics, control algorithm theory, real-time embedded systems, EH system control development and tuning.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with AI & deep learning integration, and perception solutions.
  • Experience developing and testing systems on Motor Grader machines or other earthmoving equipment.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab/Simulink, C++, and/or ROS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced electronic control systems that align with customer needs for Machine Safety, Productivity, Autonomy & Automation.
  • Collaborate with hardware, controls, and software engineers to verify and release software, and validate solutions with operators and customers.
  • Develop algorithms for sensing, planning, and control to support machine and work tool automation.
  • Solve analytical problems and debug systems that include hardware and software components, including on-machine tuning and testing.
  • Participate in R&D programs through entire lifecycle, from launch to production.
  • Stay up to date with technology, develop increased technical breadth and depth – be innovative yet able to convert concepts to reality
