We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer for the EH Braking Systems Team. This individual will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of advanced electro‑hydraulic (EH) braking control systems, including EH brake overlays and brake‑by‑wire architectures. This role provides technical leadership in developing scalable, safety‑compliant brake software and controls that enable advanced machine features, automation, and autonomy across multiple platforms. The position works closely with brake mechatronics, hydraulic system design, machine systems software, and functional safety teams to define and implement robust braking architectures and reusable control strategies that meet regulatory, performance, and autonomy requirements. The successful candidate will develop software in the Caterpillar integrated environment, including Model-Based System Development via Matlab/Simulink and AUTOSAR to support end-to-end compliance and quality.

Requirements

BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques of product development; ability to design, build new products.
Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Nice To Haves

Experience in embedded control systems for mobile equipment or automotive applications.
Experience developing software with Model-based tools, such as the Matlab/Simulink environment and AUTOSAR toolsets
Experience in embedded C/C++ development.
Knowledge of diagnostics, fault detection, redundancy management, and degraded‑mode operation for safety‑critical systems.
Experience working with functional safety and braking system compliance standards, including ISO 19014, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, and ISO 3450
Strong background in brake systems, EH hydraulics, or safety‑critical control systems.
Ability to work across disciplines and communicate effectively with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams.
Proven experience with control system architecture, modular software design, and system integration.
Ability to lead technical decisions across cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

Develop of EH brake and brake‑by‑wire control algorithms, including service brake control, diagnostics, fault handling, and system state management.
Use industry-standard tools, such as Matlab, Simulink, and AUTOSAR tools, to develop embedded control algorithms for service brake torque control, arbitration, diagnostics, and state estimation
Implement scalable brake control architectures that support multiple machine platforms while allowing platform‑specific variation.
Develop controls to enable advanced braking features, such as anti‑lock braking (ABS), traction control, retarding control, hill start, shift braking, collision mitigation, and autonomy-related features.
Support brake controls interfaces between machine systems, autonomy/assist features, and brake mechatronics, ensuring consistent and well‑documented interfaces.
Provide support for functional safety‑related braking software, including support of ISO 19014, ISO 13849, and ISO 3450 requirements.
Collaborate with hydraulic, electrical, and hardware teams on valve selection, redundancy concepts, ECM allocation, and diagnostic coverage.
Support system integration, machine validation, and issue resolution for EH brake systems in development and production.
Collaborate with hardware, hydraulics, and software teams to align valve hardware, sensors, ECMs, and control logic.
Support functional safety via ISO 19014, including safety goal definition, hazard analysis, and alignment with ISO brake standards.
