Control Systems Engineer
About The Position
W-Industries is an energy service company specializing in Automation Solutions, I&E Construction Services, Power Generation, and Packaged Equipment for the Energy and Industrial markets. Its expertise includes system technologies ranging from pneumatic-hydraulic control systems to programmable solutions and chemical injection systems. The Technology Solutions Group in Houston, Texas is seeking a Control Systems Engineer experienced in designing, developing, programming, and testing PLC- and/or DCS-based control systems in the Industrial Energy sector. The role includes control system design and software development, preparing technical documentation and test procedures, supporting systems after installation, and coordinating project execution with the project team.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of petrochemical experience, including at least 1 year of programming experience.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Control Systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems and MS Office applications.
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs and general process specifications.
- Knowledge of plant-wide and package control system architecture.
- Knowledge of safety within control system applications.
- Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills with internal team members and external clients.
- Self-motivated, with the ability and desire to work autonomously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and technical writing ability.
- Familiarity with general terminology in the oil and gas industrial sector.
- Controller/PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix.
- HMI programming experience with Wonderware and Allen-Bradley.
- Knowledge of network architecture and multiple control communication protocols, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC/DA, OPC/UA, Profibus/Net, CIP, and DLR.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for this position.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with a PlantPAx system.
- Experience working with Yokogawa DCS.
- Experience with other controllers, HMIs, and general programming languages.
- Experience in industrial sectors other than oil and gas.
Responsibilities
- Develop Control System Functional Specifications.
- Perform control system design and capacity analysis.
- Develop PLC and HMI/SCADA software applications that comply with customer and company specifications and applicable industry standards.
- Develop and execute test procedures.
- Develop operations manuals.
- Provide remote support and troubleshoot systems after installation.
- Coordinate with the project team on scheduling, scope management, and execution.
- Specify, configure, and wire controllers, I/O, and communication modules.
- Develop control system documentation, including functional specifications, control narratives, I/O lists, cause-and-effect documentation, operations manuals, and testing procedures.
- Configure Prosoft and other telecommunication gateways.
- Specify, configure, and wire flow transmitters/computers and level, pressure, and temperature instrumentation.
- Design control systems, including block diagrams, panel layouts and wiring diagrams, DC load lists, and hazardous-area documentation.
