About The Position

Duties of the control room operator include the operation of all electrical controls that allow movement of both employees and inmates within the Elko County Jail Facility. This individual is not required to have any physical contact with either inmates or civilians, although verbal contact with both is necessary. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the operation of the network records computer as well as the State NCJIS computer. The operator is responsible to monitor and control the movement of all employees, inmates and visitors within the facility, and to operate and control the access from various areas of the secured facility. The operator will maintain inmate records during the shift, observe inmate activity in day rooms, exercise room, and maintain welfare checks for the safety of the inmates and staff. The operator will oversee the security of inmates, facility, and other staff members. Responsibilities also include receiving incoming telephone calls to the jail facility, receiving visitors, incoming packages, and mail for inmates. The operator will communicate with the State through the State computer (NCJIS), running record checks, driver’s license checks, and registration checks. The operator will update inmates’ records on the network records computer system, and issue commissary as requested, to inmates. Additionally, the operator will receive complaints and take office reports from the public, log records of transactions concerning inmates’ visits, money exchanges, and cell assignments, and issue receipts to the public for inmate transactions, as necessary. The operator must comply with Elko County policies and department procedures, accurately complete work assignments in a timely manner, and advise the supervisor of project/work status. The role requires tactful communication, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, and the general public, and the ability to listen carefully and respond appropriately.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Must maintain a valid Nevada driver's license
  • Ability to demonstrate a high standard of personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Possess computer literacy skills, including experience with database, excel, and word software.
  • Ability to pass a criminal and civil background investigation.
