About The Position

Abbott's Nutrition Division is seeking a Control Room Operator for the 2nd Shift at their Columbus, OH (High Rise Warehouse) location. This role is crucial for ensuring the continuous operation of the Warehouse Management System (WMS), Equipment Management System (EMS), and associated equipment. The operator will be responsible for minimizing downtime, maximizing efficiency, and maintaining accurate finished goods inventory. This position requires a thorough understanding of all distribution center equipment and systems, including performing system validations, identifying and implementing system changes, assisting with training, and providing operational support when needed. The Control Room Operator must adhere to GMP, safety, and quality guidelines, acting as a liaison between the Division and other plant areas for system upkeep and troubleshooting. Key responsibilities include accurate documentation, data entry, maintaining systems, processing pallets through the EMS, ensuring inventory accuracy during receiving, and implementing the quality system. The role involves coordinating on-time shipping, acting as a plant liaison for Material Control systems, assisting with rework and sample requests, troubleshooting computer and RF issues, verifying and correcting inventory discrepancies between EMS and WMS, and assisting with system validation. Operational support during downtime, including loading, unloading, picking, and creating bills of lading, is also part of the role. The operator will interact with various departments and external suppliers, and must prioritize personal safety and adhere to all safety and GMP guidelines, as well as FDA, USDA, and OSHA regulations.

  • Prior job experience within warehousing operations
  • Work sequence priorities may change with little notice, must be able to be flexible
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver objects of considerable weight (50 lbs.)
  • Ability to travel approximately 3%, including supplier visits

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in business/technical field or equivalent education and experience
  • 6 months or more of job experience within warehousing operations
  • In-depth knowledge of all receiving/warehouse operations, procedures, and requirements which usually are obtained through on-the-job training

  • Experience with tools and equipment related to the position is desired (hand tools, wearing of full body harness, sit-down forklift, stand up pick vehicle, computer knowledge/skills).

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and directing all efforts to assure the WMS, EMS, and associated equipment are always operational.
  • Eliminating downtime, maximizing efficiency, and ensuring plant finished goods inventory is accurate.
  • Having a thorough working knowledge of all distribution center equipment and systems.
  • Performing validations/certification of the system and inventory.
  • Identifying and implementing changes to the system.
  • Catching picking errors.
  • Assisting with training.
  • Performing operation activity to help the team when necessary.
  • Maintaining compliance to all applicable GMP, safety, and quality guidelines.
  • Serving as the liaison between Division and all other plant areas to coordinate systems project upkeep and trouble shooting.
  • Creating very accurate & legible documentation.
  • Performing data entry accurately.
  • Maintaining all applicable systems with needed information.
  • Safely and efficiently processing pallets through the EMS system, including ensuring inventory is accurate when receiving product in to the WMS system (i.e. verifies the SKU, quantity, and lot number at each touch point).
  • Implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Coordinating on time shipping of orders for approximately 55 truckloads per day.
  • Acting as the plant liaison for all communications on the Material Control systems.
  • Retrieving and disseminating information as requested by the plant and division.
  • Assisting with completion of rework activity and pulling sample requests.
  • Investigating and assisting with the fix for computer system and radio frequency problems with the bar code readers.
  • Verifying information between EMS and WMS match and where necessary troubleshooting and correcting inventory discrepancies.
  • Assisting with validation/VCR (Validation Change Request) details to assure computer system is properly validated and remains validated with any changes made.
  • Providing operational support during down time including loading, unloading, picking, and creating bills of lading (BOL’s).
  • Contacting Division Logistics, Division Customer Services, Division and Plant MIS, Inventory Accounting, Plant Logistics, Cambar (the software supplier) and other areas as needed to administer system upkeep.
  • Accountable for personal safety and adhering to all applicable safety guidelines.
  • Communicating safety and GMP concerns to Columbus Distribution Center leadership & following up to assure the concerns are addressed.
  • Performing tasks that need completed in a timely manner or need expedited.
  • Checking e-mail at the start of each shift when possible to assure all directives are addressed.
  • Communicating to all shifts as to status of the business.
  • Making decisions based on awareness of the area operations is necessary.
  • Complying with all applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA and Abbott Nutritional Supply Chain regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Traveling as required, approximately 3%, including supplier visits.
