About The Position

Ensures the safety and security of juveniles, employees and visitors in the Montgomery County Juvenile Court (MCJC) facility. Monitors and controls all movement entering into and within the MCJC and detention facility of juveniles, visitors and staff. Monitors and manages the MCJC electronic security control system and security sensitive areas in and around the Juvenile Justice Center 24-hours, 7 days per week. In this position, you are an At-Will Employee serving at the pleasure of the Administrative Judge.

Requirements

High School degree, GED or equivalent.
CPR Certification
First Aide Certification
State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

Control Room experience
Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
Four (4) years of experience in corrections setting as a youth leader.

Responsibilities

Operate the central control console, and control panels to monitor and control the operational status of the elevators, fire alarm, and secure vestibules.
Maintain open and professional communications with local law enforcement, agencies, court staff and the public.
Monitor and facilitate all authorized movement of juveniles and visitors entering and departing the detention facility, control juvenile, visitor and employee movement within the facility, and ensure unauthorized persons are not admitted nor released into the detention facility.
Monitor alarms, cameras, radio and intercoms.
Make proper notifications to all units, medical, intervention and transport pertaining to juvenile movement to and from respective areas.
Monitor all security sensitive areas of the interior and exterior perimeter of the detention facility to ensure the safety and security of employees and juveniles including, but not limited to, electric locks, sally-port doors, intake area, visitation area, secure elevator movement, secure vestibules, and secure vestibule connector in the basement.
Initiate appropriate emergency procedures as required due to system failures or alarm conditions in accordance with standard operating procedure.
Monitor video surveillance equipment internal and external of MCJC.
Ensure that the Control Room remains secure at all times and that no unauthorized person enters the Control Room.
Conduct internal and external perimeter checks via camera to identify unusual situations and ensure building security.
Monitor and control sally port doors that enter into the secured area of the facility.
Monitor radio transmissions for routine and emergency transmissions.
Understand and respond to all emergency systems and follow established procedures for contacting the appropriate internal and external personnel and agencies in case of emergencies.
Use appropriate radio procedures when transmitting information.
Complete control desk logs and other reports of actions/incidents in accordance with policy and procedures as necessary.
Assist in monitoring visitation via camera.
Observe visitors and monitor physical contact between youth and visitor to maintain facility security.
Provide CPR and First Aide as necessary, and contact medical personnel to provide professional medical care in serious emergency situations.
Ensure the Security Control Room is kept clean.
Perform other duties as assigned.
