About The Position

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Control Room Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently monitoring and controlling plant systems and equipment from the control room. The Control Room Operator continuously monitors operating conditions, responds to alarms and abnormal conditions, and takes appropriate corrective action in accordance with established operating procedures. The Control Room Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the facility operates safely, reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental requirements and Reworld operating standards. This position may also provide direction and leadership to other operations employees during routine and emergency operating conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience operating high-pressure boilers and electric generating equipment, or an equivalent combination of formal technical training and relevant operating experience.
  • Strong understanding of power plant operations, equipment, and operating principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, electrical schematics, equipment specifications, and vendor technical manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to analyze operating conditions, identify problems, and make sound decisions in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively use computerized control systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to provide direction and support to other employees.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused while monitoring plant operations for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control plant systems and equipment, including steam generation, condensate, feedwater, turbine/generator, circulating water, service water, fuel handling, ash handling, electrical systems, fire protection, air pollution control systems, and associated computer control systems.
  • Continuously monitor meters, gauges, recorders, alarms, annunciators, and control system displays to identify changing operating conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Adjust and monitor temperatures, pressures, flows, levels, and other operating parameters to maintain safe and efficient plant operation.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, equipment malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, and emergency situations in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Execute plant startup, shutdown, and other operating procedures while maintaining safe and reliable operation.
  • Monitor and operate equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, grates, augers, conveyors, dust collection systems, and related components.
  • Monitor the operation and performance of air pollution control equipment and take appropriate action to maintain environmental compliance.
  • Conduct routine equipment surveillance, operational checks, testing, and safety inspections.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, records, calculations, and other required documentation.
  • Review operating data and trends to identify abnormal conditions, potential equipment failures, or opportunities to improve plant performance, and communicate concerns to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Monitor fire protection systems, emergency backup equipment, electrical systems, instrumentation, and other critical plant systems.
  • Identify and correct abnormal operating conditions within established procedures and escalate conditions requiring additional support.
  • Communicate effectively with the Shift Supervisor, Maintenance, Environmental, Engineering, and other site personnel regarding equipment status and operating conditions.
  • Provide guidance, training, and direction to other Operations employees on plant systems, equipment, operating procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource regarding the facility's operating systems, steam cycle, equipment, and control processes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
