About The Position

Amentum is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Control Room Operations Team Lead to join our team at the Pfizer site in Groton, CT. This critical leadership position plays a pivotal role in overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient 24/7 operation of the site’s central utility plant. The Control Room Operations Team Lead serves as the primary operational authority and on-site leadership presence during off-shift hours and in the absence of management. This role demands a technically proficient leader with strong decision-making abilities, exceptional team management skills, and a proven commitment to operational excellence, safety, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will foster a collaborative, high-performance culture while driving continuous improvement, mentoring operators, and ensuring seamless coordination with customers, technicians, and leadership. Working on a 12-hour Dupont shift schedule with four rotating teams, the Team Lead will be instrumental in maintaining optimal system performance, responding decisively to operational challenges, and upholding the highest standards of regulatory compliance and workplace safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CT state OE2 license or the ability to obtain one within a year of service.
  • Five years of technical experience in any skilled trade including operating and maintaining chilled water systems in a large commercial or industrial environment or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the operation of building management systems and chilled water generation and distribution.
  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as requested.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.
  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong day-to-day leadership and direction to a team of Control Room Operators and technicians, acting as the primary point of contact and operational decision-maker when management is not on site.
  • Lead shift startup and pass-down meetings, effectively communicating priorities, safety concerns, and operational status to ensure smooth transitions and team alignment.
  • Oversee the operation and monitoring of three dual-fuel 600 psig industrial steam boilers, a Gas Turbine with Waste Heat Recovery Steam Generator (WHRSG), power generation and distribution systems, nitrogen distribution, condensate return systems, and all associated auxiliary equipment using the Delta V DCS platform.
  • Coordinate daily workloads, assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule while optimizing resource utilization.
  • Serve as the first responder to alarm conditions, abnormal events, and system failures—making rapid, sound decisions, implementing corrective actions, and escalating issues appropriately to minimize downtime and risk.
  • Oversee regular equipment rounds, water chemistry testing, collect and analyze operational data, and oversee the execution of minor repairs to maintain peak system efficiency.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs, records, and documentation in full compliance with all air, water, and basin discharge regulatory requirements and permits.
  • Actively promote and drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies, implementing process enhancements, and supporting ongoing training and development of team members.
  • Enforce strict adherence to all company and site safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work procedures, and proper use of PPE.
  • Collaborate closely with customers, maintenance teams, and management to resolve operational issues, communicate production challenges, and support broader facility objectives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment while upholding high standards of professionalism, attention to detail, and accountability.
