About The Position

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff, and together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies. Our Grants and Contracts Office (GCO) unit supports MCW investigators and research staff in both facilitating the negotiation of research-related contracts as well as preparing other high-quality business agreements. The GCO Contracts Analyst I plays a key role in reviewing and negotiating business agreements (contracts) of the MCW research enterprise, particularly those related to clinical research such as clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements, data use agreements and confidentiality agreements. The Analyst also serves as the GCO point of contact to all departments for pre-award and non-financial post-award activities associated with for-profit clinical grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. In routinely applying legal knowledge and experience of industry requirements, the Analyst works with investigators, departments and other central offices to implement clinical research programs in compliance with institutional policy and sponsor regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills and persistent follow through.
  • Solid knowledge of related federal regulations, including the National Institutes of Health and the Office of Management and Budget, and ability to interpret organizational policies and guidelines for research management.
  • Proven ability to maintain balance between positive relationships with external sponsors and internal personnel while adhering to the requirements of the institution.
  • Ability to maintain confidences, perform effectively in a stressful, deadline-driven environment, and effectively plan and organize projects impacting the work of others.
  • Positive advocacy of the goals and objectives of the unit, department and mission of MCW is essential.
  • Flexibility with internal processes and timelines is fundamental.
  • Strong customer service skills that includes courteous and helpful behavior; accomplishing tasks through teamwork and initiative; ensuring timely and thorough responses to complaints and critiques; and anticipating the needs of all those with whom you work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail are required.
  • Strong computer skills and high comfort level with multiple web-based systems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 year’s experience

  • JD, Master’s or advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as MCW point of contact and liaison for sponsoring organizations of clinical research for related contracts and agreements.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and process the following agreements and related amendments/modifications: Industry supported clinical trial agreements, research agreements, extramurally funded contracts; Project-specific work statements under master clinical trial/research agreements; Non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements; Validation of compliance for account extensions.
  • Facilitate, submit, negotiate and award clinical trials.
  • Develop and implement compliance measures, and draft and manage sub-recipient awards in support of clinical research.
  • Interpret and articulate both institutional and sponsor policies and relevant procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Proactively keep department apprised of changes in policies and regulations of relevant granting agencies.
  • Work with departments and central administrative offices to achieve compliance.
  • Demonstrate daily working knowledge of regulatory and governing bodies which impact contracts administration to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in identifying, developing and implementing process improvements that impact the day-to-day operations of the GCO unit and the MCW research enterprise.
  • Partner with other GCO analysts and MCW stakeholders and participate in team-based projects, as assigned.
