About The Position

Member of the People Operations (Human Resources) team responsible for supporting payroll tax activities including analysis and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Will stay up to date with all California regulations and partner with senior management to ensure compliance. Will respond to questions and special requests from regulatory agencies, research and communicate laws and regulations regarding taxes to all internal stakeholders and maintain all payroll tax withholding procedures within the HRIS system.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years California Payroll Tax experience and minimum of two years of multi-entity payroll processing
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of all payroll tax processes including opening and maintaining California multi-state payroll tax accounts, liability payment processing and all Quarterly and Year-End reporting
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of payroll tax and the regulatory environment, which includes federal, multi-state, and local tax regulations as well as the ability to read, understand, and analyze highly complex regulatory payroll tax information
  • Must have ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Highly motivated and capable of performing complex tasks following established processes

  • Maintains strict confidentiality to protect teammate and all data privacy

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) a plus
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions a plus
  • Multi-state Payroll Tax experience a plus
  • ADP Lyric, SmartCompliance and ireports experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Managing and overseeing all aspects of California payroll tax and compliance and partner with senior management to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend best practices
  • Assist senior leaders and 3rd party vendors with managing and overseeing all aspects of California payroll tax filings and reconciliations, including but not limited to, state income tax, unemployment insurance, and disability insurance
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of payroll tax laws and state compliance requirements; stay informed on all relevant legislation and industry trends to ensure the company remains compliant with all laws
  • Analyze payroll tax reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all state, and local regulations
  • Assist senior management with coordinating and managing biweekly payroll tax processes for multi-state operations
  • Assist with research, analysis and communication of all state-specific regulations to ensure compliance across all jurisdictions where employees are located
  • Support and participate in payroll year-end functions including reconciliation and processing of state and federal reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned
