About The Position

This is a contract position anticipated to last 12 months or longer, and available to be fully remote within the contiguous United States. The role involves applying technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design. The candidate shall be capable of leading technical activities and provide effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of full-time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer is required.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, theories.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required.
  • Design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel, use of design software and finite element method analyses.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree is preferred.
  • A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred.
  • Working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual.
  • Use of ANSYS and SAP2000 is preferred.
  • Computer programing skills (e.g. Matlab, or Python) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as subject matter expert in the civil structural design areas, resolving technical issues, coordinating discussions with interdisciplinary stakeholders, and working with management to identify project impacts.
  • Works on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment.
  • Works on developing the technical expertise required to bring in advances technical capabilities in house as deemed beneficial and strategic for NuScale.
  • Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc).
  • Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts.
  • Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
  • Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team’s technical activities.
  • Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
  • Possesses strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
