As a Contract Surety Underwriter at The Hartford you will support the Construction Bond line of business strategies by marketing and underwriting business in partnership with field office specialists.

Requirements

  • 3 + years of contract surety underwriting experience with large account experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
  • Valid Driver’s license as a company car may be provided

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and assess underwriting information and complex risk and make recommendations to management.
  • Maintain disciplined adherence to underwriting and service standards.
  • Weighs decisions between underwriting standards and customer needs and expectations.
  • Balances risk relative to return to make effective and acceptable underwriting decisions.
  • Assist in conducting client meetings/agency calls.
  • Develop marketing plans and strategies.
  • Cultivate customer and producer relationships to promote Bond products and services within regional office.
  • Seek out resources to identify and satisfy customer and producer needs.
  • Share pertinent information to support product development, market research and identification of business opportunities between Bond lines of business and other Hartford business units.
  • Implement strategy with area of responsibility in accordance with regional direction.
  • Effectively utilize the Bond Center to support sales and service objectives.
  • Ensure achievement of financial goals and business plan objectives.
  • Manage change effectively and positively.
  • Utilize system efficiently and effectively.
