About The Position

Grand Canyon University is seeking a Continuing Education Advisor to counsel new and continuing non-degree students regarding University policy and procedures, registration, course requirements, and payment options. This role involves collecting required paperwork, ensuring academic and financial clearance, and assisting students with understanding and modifying their registration. The advisor will resolve student issues by working with various University departments, adhere to all University, state, and federal guidelines, and ensure student accounts are accurate and in good standing. The position requires understanding the operating procedures of other departments, serving as a student advocate, and closely collaborating with cross-functional teams. Regular monitoring of student activity, GPA, and other components for academic progress is expected, along with consistently meeting deadlines and performance expectations. The advisor must learn and effectively use all software programs/systems, qualify prospective students, and achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals. The role represents GCU as an educated advisor familiar with higher education and assists students through their decision-making process. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Excellent customer service skills which would be demonstrated in working in a high volume customer service center.
  • Ability to represent GCU in a highly professional manner in all interactions.
  • Possess solid interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to advise students in a highly collaborative manner to select appropriate courses based upon articulated desires and interests and facilitate their decision making process.
  • Required to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment with constant phone contact with students on a daily basis.
  • Must have good critical thinking, judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning, organization, multi-tasking, and follow up skills to meet standard customer service turnaround times.
  • An ability to help and guide students to clarify academic needs and objectives.
  • Ability to learn GCU educational offerings and programs and to accurately explain to potential students.
  • Ability to work both independently, collaboratively and cooperatively as a team member and willing to learn and work other student services’ functions.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite, (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with navigating and maneuvering other databases and software becoming proficient with GCU systems within a short period of time.
  • Ability to successfully pass background investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel new and continuing non-degree students regarding University policy and procedures, registration, course requirements and payment options.
  • Collect all required paperwork and documents for registration and selected payment options.
  • Ensure academic and financial clearance prior to each course start date, including complete and accurate documents to support a student's individual method of payment option.
  • Academically clear all admissions and academic compliance policy and procedures required prior to each course start date.
  • Work with students to ensure understanding of the registration process and/or the steps to modify registration prior to the course commencing.
  • Resolve any outstanding matters for students via multiple University departments, which may include the Office of Academic Records, Classroom Operations, the Colleges or others as required.
  • Adhere to all University, state and federal guidelines and policies.
  • Ensure students’ accounts are accurate and in good standing with plans in place if necessary.
  • Collect and review required University payment option documents for accuracy.
  • Maintain accounts to include balance resolution and accounts receivable collection and processing modifications through duration of program.
  • Understand the operating procedures of other departments and incorporate those elements into daily workflow.
  • Serve as a student advocate to navigate through university policy and procedure.
  • Follow all policies, procedures and compliance guidelines.
  • Work closely with cross functional and support departments to update student information and to resolve student issues.
  • Regularly monitor student activity, GPA, and other components for academic progress.
  • Consistently meet deadlines and performance expectations set by University Leadership team.
  • Understand and learn all software programs/systems to effectively assist students.
  • Qualify prospective students and accurately enter prospect’s contact information into the appropriate system.

  • Represent GCU as an educated advisor, familiar with higher education and assist students through the various steps as part of their decision-making process.
