About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Content & Digital Media, the Content Writer (Ottawa 67's) will uncover and tell stories from across the 67's ecosystem, from players and coaches to billets, alumni, fans and community members. The focus of this role is not traditional game-by-game coverage, but storytelling that introduces personalities, builds emotional connection and helps strengthen the relevance of the Ottawa 67's in the market.

Requirements

  • Completion of or current enrolment in post-secondary education in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field is considered an asset.
  • A strong writer with a natural curiosity about people and what makes a great story.
  • Strong interviewing skills and the ability to make people comfortable sharing their experiences.
  • An understanding of how storytelling can build connection between a sports team and its fans.
  • Ability to take a story beyond scores, statistics and results and find the human angle behind it.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a broader content and marketing team.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Previous writing, journalism, communications or digital content experience is considered an asset, including professional experience, student journalism, freelance work or other published writing.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends based on the Ottawa 67's schedule.
  • An interest in hockey and familiarity with the Ontario Hockey League; knowledge of the Ottawa 67's is considered an asset.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide writing samples or a portfolio demonstrating their storytelling ability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling written features that introduce fans to the players, personalities and people behind the Ottawa 67's.
  • Find and tell human-interest stories from across the broader 67's community, including players, coaches, billets, alumni, fans, community partners and others connected to the organization.
  • Conduct interviews with players, coaches, staff and members of the 67's community to uncover authentic and engaging stories.
  • Help introduce and build familiarity with the current 67's roster, going beyond what happens on the ice to showcase players' personalities, backgrounds and journeys.
  • Tell stories that celebrate the history, traditions and community connections that have shaped the Ottawa 67's.
  • Support storytelling around key organizational moments, including promotional games, community initiatives, player milestones, alumni programming and other priority campaigns.
  • Attend select practices, home games and team or community events to conduct interviews and identify storytelling opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Content & Digital Media team to identify editorial priorities and contribute story ideas throughout the season.
  • Write and edit content for Ottawa67s.com and other 67’s-owned channels as required.
  • Ensure content is accurate, engaging and consistent with the 67’s brand standards.
  • Meet established deadlines while balancing longer-form features with timely storytelling opportunities.
