About The Position

The Strategic Communications portfolio enables the University of Alberta to deliver on the vision and goals outlined in the university’s strategic plan. We illustrate the value that the U of A provides to our community and to society as a whole. In service of the One University strategy, we work with academic and operational leaders to tie their operational and strategic plans into the larger university strategy in a way that moves the dial on important measures of success. Whether we work directly with partners on their initiatives, or support their work through portfolio-initiated projects, we connect the dots from strategies across the institution – especially where they connect to the larger institutional goals – and draw them together into a compelling and consistent narrative of one of the Top 5 universities in Canada. Highlights of the role The Content Specialist, Video, produces high-impact visual storytelling content that highlights the University of Alberta's research and activities to tell our story to the world. This role focuses on creating compelling visual stories that illustrate the university’s value to the broader community and to society as a whole. By translating complex research and initiatives into relatable, human-centered stories, the Specialist ensures work done here resonates with today's audiences. The Specialist serves as a dedicated practitioner who handles the workflow from the spark of an initial idea through story research, logistics, filming and the final technical polish. They ensure every story is expertly prepared for strategic distribution to meet today’s audiences where they are. This role is rooted in collaboration. The Specialist works alongside internal partners and subject matter experts to research and surface the diverse range of research developments and initiatives happening across all our campuses. By producing original content that reflects this breadth of work, the role demonstrates how work done at the university leads to measurable improvements in daily lives and creates value for the public. The Specialist provides the expert editorial judgment and advice to ensure all stories are audience-first and evidence-based, with a goal of amplifying the university’s mission through a high volume of timely, accessible, and compelling visual narratives that align with how audiences consume information today.
