About The Position

Overheard is seeking a freelance Content Creator to manage its daily pop culture and national content. The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating ideas, writing, producing, and publishing content that aligns with the Overheard brand. This role requires someone who is quick-witted, culturally aware, and highly relatable, with a focus on capturing the unique humor and experiences of life and the internet in 2026. The content creator will work across written articles, social-first videos, and other formats to ensure the Overheard feed remains fresh, funny, and engaging. This project-based freelance position is perfect for individuals deeply immersed in internet and pop culture, who can quickly transform everyday moments into captivating content. Collaboration with the Editor, Social Leads, and the wider Overheard team is essential, involving participation in pitch meetings, development of new content formats, and maintaining brand consistency across all platforms.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of experience in editorial, social content creation, media, publishing, entertainment, or a similar creative field.
• Exceptional writing skills with a comedic sensibility, able to nail Overheard's specific voice (quick, sharp, observational, irreverent, but never try-hard).
• Deep familiarity with dating culture: dating apps, modern relationship dynamics, and the conversations people are having about them online.
• Proven ability to ideate and execute social-first content across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other emerging platforms.
• Comfortable shooting and editing video on iPhone or consumer-grade equipment.
• Strong understanding of meme culture and internet trends, and how to translate everyday dating moments into compelling content.
• Highly organized, able to manage multiple content streams and hit deadlines independently.
• Collaborative and communicative, excited to pitch, brainstorm, and build new formats.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or other lightweight video editing tools.

Responsibilities

• Publish Dating Content
• Write and publish original, on-voice content for Overheard on a consistent schedule.
• Write sharp, witty, brand-aligned captions, headlines, copy, and scripts in the Overheard voice, tailored to pop culture, work, and entertainment.
• Ensure every post feels platform-native and culturally relevant.
• Video Production + Editing
• Shoot, edit, and package low-lift short-form videos using an iPhone or consumer-grade equipment.
• Maintain a nimble, social-first production style that matches Overheard's pace and aesthetic.
• Content Ideation + Development
• Bring fresh ideas to pitch meetings for editorial posts, video franchises, and comedic formats rooted in pop culture.
• Brand + Voice Stewardship
• Uphold Overheard's tone, POV, aesthetics, and writing style across every asset.
• Stay on top of internet culture, trending humor formats, and dating-app conversations to keep the account relevant and timely.
• Partner with Creative, Social, and Editorial teams to support launches and content experiments.
• Quality + Process
• Maintain high editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and comedic alignment.
• Stay organized across a fast-moving content pipeline and deliver on deadlines.
• Contribute to evolving best practices and creative playbooks as Overheard grows.
