About The Position

Evaluates contact lens patients. Designs and fits all types of contact lenses, supplies contact lens care and handling instructions, and provides thorough and adequate follow-up care. Maintains proper documentation of performed procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience and training necessary to successfully obtain certification by National Contact Lens Examiners.
  • National Contact Lens Examiners Certification.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Strong clinical, human relations, and motivational skills.
  • Proven leadership and effective training skills also required.
  • Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Slit Lamp, Lensometer, Corneal Measurement, and Contact Lens Cleaning Equipment; Visual Acuity Equipment; Telephone, POS system.
  • Must also be able to utilize a PC to send and receive e-mail and attachments.
  • Familiar with Microsoft & its applications.
  • NCLE certification required within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic fitting of all types of contact lenses including soft, gas permeable, and special designs.
  • Assists providers and contact lens technician with complex contact lens cases.
  • Evaluates contact fit on patients who originally had them fitted elsewhere.
  • Obtains and records patient histories.
  • Provides routine follow-up care which may include but is not limited to: Rechecks: slit lamp, lensometer, corneal measurements, subjective and objective evaluation of fitting using fluorescein when applicable. Alterations: modifications, cleaning or polishing of contact lenses. Measurements: measures visual acuities.
  • Orders and maintains adequate diagnostic inventories of items including contact lenses, solutions, and supplies.
  • Handles money, deposits, and receipts.
  • Assesses and answers or resolves patient concerns and questions.
  • Inputs patient history and orders into the POS system daily.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
