About The Position

This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data-collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions. Under supervision, this individual also fits contact lens and fills contact lens prescriptions. This position may travel to all Graystone Eye locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Optical-related experience preferred.
  • If not certified, must have the ability to prepare for and obtain NCLE certification within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Stacks, straightens, and cleans stock room as necessary.
  • Evaluates contact lens prescription in conjunctions with patient’s needs and lifestyle.
  • Recommends specific contact lenses to suit patient’s needs.
  • With supervision, takes corneal measurements using various instruments including but not limited to keratometer and topography.
  • With supervision, prepares paperwork and lens for order for contact lenses.
  • Under supervision, using a slit lamp, verifies the fit of contact lenses.
  • Instructs patients on the insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses.
  • Recommends other optical products to patients.
  • Under supervision, able to assess the patient’s visual problem.
  • Computes amount of sale.
  • Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: Visual Acuity, Lensometry, Applanation Tonometry, Confrontational Visual Field Testing, Stereo Testing, Evaluation of Motility, Pupillary Function Tests, Color Plates, Accurate Refractometry, Angle Assessment, Dilation of Pupils, Schirmers, Amsler Grid.
  • Administer topical and oral medication under direct supervision of a physician.
  • Learn coding and requirements for specific codes and modifiers.
  • Learn documentation requirements for E & M coding.
  • Seek advice from more senior staff as necessary; never performing beyond capabilities.
  • Maintain stock levels and cleanliness of exam lanes.
  • Perform other duties, as required.
  • Demonstrate support of staff involvement in approved clinic activities.
  • Demonstrate supportive teamwork attitude.
  • Acknowledge co workers verbally and non-verbally.
  • Communicate and behave professionally at all times, demonstrate flexibility, using appropriate communication techniques, verbally validates other perspectives.
  • Assume responsibility for continuous learning by attending in-services, staff meetings and updates.
  • Complete assigned Continuing Education Training.
  • Maintain OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
