About The Position

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Division of Quality Assurance and Regulations, is recruiting to fill the position of Consumer Protection Inspector in York County. This position's primary focus is to perform inspections of weighing and measuring devices. A suitable candidate will have weights and measures knowledge, inspection experience, mechanical repair, and mathematical skills. Computer literacy is a plus.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of education, training, and/or experience in the field of microbiology, agricultural science, food science, applied mechanics, regulatory/law enforcement, or weights & measures.
  • Must be willing to attend out-of-state training.
  • Must successfully complete all training with a passing grade.
  • Must be willing to work a schedule that may include holidays and scheduled days off as necessary.
  • Must be willing to perform relief inspections statewide.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, testing, and approving for use, commercial meters in the sale of petroleum products, large and small capacity scales and other measuring instruments used in commercial transactions that impact industry and consumers.
  • Performing inspection of package checking and method of sale, wood measurement, vehicle tank meters, propane meters, and other inspections as required as set forth by State rules, regulations, and Division policy.
  • Gathering information, interpreting regulations, and assessing findings to determine non-compliance.
  • Writing non-compliance records in an accurate, descriptive, and precise manner.
