About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), is accepting applications for the position of Consumer Protection Gaming Investigator in Hartford, CT. Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) Certification required. This position is responsible for independently performing a full range of tasks in investigating complaints and alleged violations of state laws and regulations pertaining to state regulated lottery, pari-mutuel operations, iCasino, daily fantasy sport contest, retail & online sports wagering. The DCP Gaming Investigator will report to the Lead Gaming Investigator and Division Director. The Department of Consumer Protection’s (DCP) Gaming Division is responsible for regulating legal gambling programs in Connecticut, which is comprised of casinos, lottery, iLottery, Off-Track Betting (OTB), retail sports wager & online sports wagering, online casino gaming, and fantasy contests. This is accomplished through a rigorous program of game and system approvals, licensing, inspections, monitoring, audits, and investigations which are conducted to best safeguard consumer interest and integrity of the gaming process.

Requirements

  • Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) Certification required.
  • Six (6) years of investigatory experience in law enforcement.
  • College training in law enforcement or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Incumbents in this class must obtain and retain appointment by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection as a special police officer.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
  • Candidates for this class are subject to selection standards pursuant to Sections 7-294e-1 to 7-294e-24 of the regulations of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting criminal and employment background investigations.
  • Experience participating in undercover law enforcement investigations.
  • Experience preparing applications for arrest warrants, search warrants, and preparation for legal proceedings.
  • Experience with analyzing financial records and digital forensics during investigations.
  • Experience with Connecticut Gaming Laws, Regulations and Technical Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting surveillance

  • Secure evidence in form of statements, documents, records and exhibits for use in administrative hearings and court
