About The Position

Peoples Bank is seeking a Consumer Credit Analyst I to join their team. This role is responsible for underwriting consumer loan applications from branch and dealer networks. The analyst will perform financial, credit, work, and employment history analysis to make sound loan decisions in accordance with bank and regulatory policies. The position involves regular interaction with retail banking associates and dealer financing personnel, assisting in training new personal bankers on consumer lending principles, and collaborating with the Collection Department on loan workout and extension requests. Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Consumer or residential loan underwriting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with automated underwriting systems preferred.
  • Objective and decisive decision-making is essential.
  • Experience analyzing individual financial statements or tax returns.
  • Proven experience interfacing with internal or external clients.
  • Must be able to communicate loan requirements, position questions and listen effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented production environment.
  • Positive, customer-focused, outgoing, team-oriented individual with analytical skills.
  • Must have proven negotiation, problem resolution and conflict management skills.
  • Working knowledge of general software products such as Word and Excel.
  • Understanding or familiarity with key regulations governing the business including but not limited to Regulation B, Regulation Z, Fair Credit Reporting Act etc.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite a high volume of consumer loan applications from branch and dealer networks, utilizing an automated underwriting system.
  • Resolve questions and gain clarification to make accurate credit decisions.
  • Evaluate applicant characteristics including financial condition, credit report, employment history, residence history, and collateral.
  • Analyze consumer financial documents or tax returns to establish ability to repay.
  • Approve loans within established authority and evaluate mitigating factors for policy exception recommendations.
  • Maintain knowledge of internal and external policies and regulations impacting consumer lending.
  • Collaborate with the Collection Department on underwriting loan modification and extension requests.
  • Provide training to retail branch or dealer finance staff on bank guidelines and lending processes.
  • Prepare or analyze production reports.
  • Perform industry or market research to assess competitiveness of price, product, and process.
  • Complete letter of guarantee requests for totaled vehicles.
  • Provide timely correspondence to insurance carriers for claims processing.
  • Follow up on title lien filings and Compliance and Patriot Act exceptions.
  • Provide excellent, accurate, and professional service to internal and external customers.
  • Mentor and train new hires on department standards and procedures.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
