About The Position

The Division of Consumer Protection, within the Department of Insurance, was established in 1998 to assist consumers with insurance-related issues. This division handles complaints concerning health, life, auto, homeowners, and commercial insurance, as well as the actions of agents or agencies. We are seeking a Consumer Complaint Investigator II to join our team. This role involves performing professional-level work examining, evaluating, and investigating complex complaints of potential violations of program laws and regulations. The position also includes mediating compliance violations where legal action is not necessary and performing other required duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in investigating, auditing, consumer education, mediating, or resolving complaints or a related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to employment.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates complex complaints regarding violations of Kentucky (KY) statutes and regulations through field investigations and interviews.
  • Mediates and resolves complaints through oral and written communication with involved parties.
  • Recommends corrective actions as needed.
  • Answers complex inquiries regarding insurance laws and regulations by drafting letters, memos, and using form letters.
  • Prepares reports, charts, and other materials using an internal database to track, manage, update, and close complaints.
  • Cooperates with other Divisions within the Department of Insurance, other state departments of insurance, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
  • Abides by departmental rules, regulations, and policies during investigative work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
