About The Position

The Office of Professional & Occupational Regulation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Board Investigator. This position reports directly to the Regulatory Board Manager. This position is responsible for managing consumer complaints and compliance requirements for various licensing boards, including but not limited to, the Maine State Board of Funeral Service, Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, Massage Therapy Program, etc. The primary responsibilities are to investigate consumer complaints and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with various laws and rules governing licensees. This position works under limited supervision and is directly responsible for managing all investigations and inspections, as well as submitting reports to the Regulatory Board Manager and the complaint committee to prepare complaint cases for initial presentation, adjudicatory hearings and/or compliance monitoring activities for b

Requirements

  • A six (6) year combination of education and experience in consumer complaints, determining facts, and resolving/recommending resolution to complaints
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in: State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations governing assigned boards and programs
  • Explain and clarify pertinent laws, rules, regulations, and policies

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and investigate allegations of unprofessional and/or incompetence in accordance with the Agency’s complaint process.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with laws and rules of the Board and to file those inspection reports.
  • Track, review, and bring appropriate resolution to consumer complaints, inquiries, allegations, and claims.
  • Interviews complainants, respondents, and witnesses; may conduct fact-finding in order to gather all facts and information needed to make recommendations on outcome of the case
  • Coordinate case reviews with the complaint committee in preparation for Board action.
  • Draft Letters of Guidance, Preliminary Denials, and Consent Agreements to resolve complaint cases in coordination with the complaint committee.
  • Manage the data compiled in the case management system, track open cases, prepare cases for review and ensure case information is collected and resolution data reported for compiling statistical reports.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, state officials and the public at large.
  • Conduct research and report results on license practice issues as identified by the Regulatory Board Manager.
