Requirements

  • Exhibit proficiency in program specifications, regulations, and standards
  • Superior species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree growth rates
  • Ability to interact with staff and other stakeholders as required or directed
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as team
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills a priority
  • Willing to travel and work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
  • Degree in forestry or related field and/or experience in utility line clearance
  • Species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree growth rates
  • Prior pre-inspection experience (Required)
  • ISA Certified Arborist (Required)
  • Proficient in map navigation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and data collection software (GIS experience a plus)
  • Valid driver’s license and DOT medical card to tow and drive a side by side

  • TRAQ Certified Arborist (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform annual distribution vegetation inspections along 21kV, service drops, and comm lines (GO 95, Rule 35, PRC 1492, PRC 1493)
  • Annual transmission vegetation and audit inspections (FAC-003-5)
  • Visual, detailed, and intrusive inspections for 21kV poles (GO 165)
  • Manage 21kv pole data and managing pole ID numbers for existing/ new construction
  • Inspect vegetation around power plants and other Calpine building/infrastructure
  • Inspect vegetation along steam, vent, injection lines, roadways, and other Calpine non-utility infrastructure
  • Assign vegetation work to tree crews and herbicide applicators
  • Audit and perform QC on work completed by tree contactors and herbicide applicators
  • Manage Fulcrum data for both vegetation and pole data
  • Work with Calpine engineers on new construction work and coordinating planned vegetation work
  • Complete required annual inspection and audit reports
  • Assist Calpine with other vegetation-related needs
  • Contact property owners & public agencies regarding pruning and/or removals
  • Gather and manage field data; including tree species, size, and distance from conductors
  • Verify that summaries and charts accurately reflect underlying datasets
  • Safeguard employees and public from hazards in and around the work area
  • Enforce on-the-job safety practices
  • Carry and utilize materials, tools, and equipment at work site
  • Service trucks and equipment, keep trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and internal controls
  • Support Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Position may require some outside travel
  • During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster
