Consulting Systems Engineer

FortinetSunrise, FL
Onsite

About The Position

This role focuses on owning the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of regional laboratory, showroom, and demonstration facilities serving sales and marketing across Latin America. The engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and continuously optimizing the lab’s compute, storage, networking, and virtualization fabric for high availability, performance, and security. A key aspect of the role is treating the lab as code, building and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines to provision, version, and tear down repeatable demo and POC environments on demand. Automation of routine operations such as backups, snapshots, patching, environment resets, capacity and energy monitoring, and health checks is crucial. The role also involves enabling tooling to accelerate operations, troubleshooting, and documentation, as well as monitoring, troubleshooting, and remediating physical and virtual infrastructure. On-site support for cabling, device shipping logistics, and physical safety inspections, along with maintaining accurate, version-controlled documentation, are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the role supports strategic pre-sales engagements and key opportunities as a high-level regional technical resource, with an emphasis on lab-backed demonstrations and POCs. This includes planning and executing proof-of-concept initiatives, conducting technical meetings, presentations, and demonstrations, and acting as a subject-matter expert. Building demo guides and reusable assets, working with Product Management and Engineering to surface lab/demo requirements, and providing training and mentorship are also part of the role. The engineer will operate within a distributed team, contribute to internal engineering communities, comply with activity reporting, and communicate proactively with management. Domestic and international travel is required.

Requirements

  • Years of technical experience in networking, computing, or data-center/lab infrastructure, with a track record of building and operating complex environments.
  • Hands-on administration of Windows and Linux, plus virtualization and private-cloud platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, KVM, or OpenStack), including building and optimizing a virtual data center.
  • Scripting and automation: Python and Bash, Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible, Terraform), Git-based workflows, and comfort working with REST APIs.
  • Strong grasp of network infrastructure (switching, routing, BGP/OSPF) and network security enforcement (NGFW/VPN, segmentation, authentication).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills; able to present to technical and business audiences and manage complex work plans.
  • English and Spanish required (B2 level or higher).

Nice To Haves

  • Modern secure access (SD-WAN, SASE, ZTNA), public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), and containers/Kubernetes.
  • SIEM/SOAR and observability tooling; traffic generation and validation tools (e.g., Ixia BreakingPoint).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applied to infrastructure operations, observability, and content generation.
  • Relevant certifications (Fortinet NSE/FCX/FCSS, CISSP, CISM) or cloud/automation certifications.
  • Portuguese a strong plus.
