About The Position

Join ERM’s Capital Project Delivery Team in one of our Canadian offices (Vancouver, Smithers, Calgary, or Saskatoon) and help drive sustainable solutions that balance development with biodiversity protection. At ERM, we partner with leading organizations to solve complex environmental challenges. As a Consulting Senior Associate, Wildlife Biologist, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding wildlife and habitats while enabling responsible resource development. Your expertise will influence decisions that shape landscapes and communities for generations.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Biological Sciences or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years in environmental consulting or related sectors (government, mining, energy).
  • Proven ability to lead wildlife field surveys and produce technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify fauna in western Canada, including birds by sight and sound.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.
  • Eligibility for professional registration (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Biol., or equivalent).
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

Nice To Haves

  • M.Sc. in Biological Sciences or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of consulting experience.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, spatial habitat mapping, or ARU or camera trap data processing.
  • Experience with birds, caribou or northern projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead wildlife field programs across Western and Northern Canada, from caribou ranges to migratory bird habitats.
  • Deliver high-quality ecological assessments and mitigation strategies for major mining and energy projects.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities, regulators, and industry leaders to ensure compliance and conservation.
  • Contribute to ERM’s global network of environmental experts, sharing knowledge and advancing best practices.
  • Design and lead wildlife field programs (birds, amphibians, large mammals).
  • Prepare wildlife assessments for Environmental Impact Statements and management plans.
  • Conduct literature reviews, analyze field data, and develop client recommendations.
  • Manage multiple projects to meet scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and ERM colleagues worldwide.
