About The Position

This is a full-time position that combines a 40% role as Residency Program Director with a 60% clinical practice in an established Internal Medicine clinic group. The primary focus of the Program Director role is to establish a new Internal Medicine residency program in St. Cloud, MN. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with leadership aspirations seeking to influence the development of future physicians. The position is well-resourced, with the program director involved in hiring associate program directors, core faculty, and program administrators. Support will be provided by the CentraCare Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, including a GME Medical Director and operational assistance. The University of Minnesota Medical School, as the sponsoring institution, will offer support from both the Department of Internal Medicine and the GME Office. The role requires a candidate with experience in GME leadership and a minimum of 3 years of teaching and administrative experience. Additionally, the position includes a 0.6 FTE clinical practice within an established Internal Medicine group, with options for ambulatory or hospitalist practice. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for education, foster a positive learning environment, and ensure a conducive learning experience for residents. The training site will be the St. Cloud Campus of CentraCare.

Requirements

  • Physician MD/DO
  • Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician
  • Has or can establish a Minnesota Medical License
  • 5 years full-time in Internal Medicine
  • 3 years educational/admin experience or equivalent
  • Ability to provide a 0.4 FTE per week to establish an Internal Medicine Residency program for the year 2028

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to establish and grow an Internal Medicine Residency at the St. Cloud location
  • Be a role model of physician professionalism and excellence for medical students and residents
  • Develop comprehensive curriculum, that is broad-based and primary care focused
  • Establish protocol for the recruitment and onboarding of new residents
  • Ensure program compliance, establishing policies and procedures by ACGME, ABMS and GMEC
  • Establish program evaluation and improvements to closely monitor educational outcomes; this includes but is not limited to scholarships, match rates, board pass rates, resident experience and the teaching environment
  • Passion to promote rural health medicine
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with colleagues, program supervisor, and residents. This includes information in collaboration with the current department, GME leadership and executive leaders. This also includes the external communication needed with the GMEC entity.
  • Continued professional development. Attending national/local PD activities. Annual workshops, MMCGME conferences.
