About The Position

For 60 years, Crisis Support Services of Alameda County (CSS) has been dedicated to preventing suicide and offering hope during times of crisis. Our vision is an Alameda County where every individual, in all our diversity, feels a true sense of belonging. We provide life-affirming support through our 24-hour crisis line and text line, grief therapy, older adult therapy, school-based therapy, and community education in school settings and for adults. While we acknowledge that the mental health field has not always served everyone equally, we are actively working to create a more just and inclusive crisis system of care for all. We commit to addressing the inequities and elevating voices and experiences of those directly impacted by suicidal thinking or behaviors, in order to better serve the diverse communities of Alameda County. Crisis Support Services of Alameda County is seeking a qualified consultant with a background in mental health and suicide prevention to guide us through a two-phase Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative. Our goal is to align our internal values with our mission to serve the diverse communities of Alameda County, ensuring our practices are responsive to help seekers.

Requirements

  • Mental Health Expertise: A deep understanding of the behavioral health field.
  • Suicide Prevention Familiarity: Specialized knowledge in suicide prevention frameworks (highly preferred).
  • Local Sensitivity: Experience working with or within Alameda County’s diverse populations.
  • Instructional Design: Proven ability to create engaging, reusable training content.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an Organizational Assessment: Review current policies, demographic data, and workplace culture.
  • Leadership Assessment: Engage with leadership to identify strengths, biases, and commitment levels.
  • Define JEDI Principles: Facilitate the creation of a cohesive outline of JEDI principles that connect directly to our clinical and community-facing mission. Ensure all findings are viewed through the lens of the specific socioeconomic and cultural needs of our local community.
  • Onboarding Integration: Design modules specifically for future staff and manager onboarding.
  • Roadmap and Toolkit: Provide a comprehensive toolkit to help the agency maintain and evolve this work independently after the 180-day period.
