About The Position

SOCOTEC is seeking a motivated Consultant to support a Senior Managing Director in resolving complex client issues involving facades, watertightness, moisture intrusion, and mold in real estate assets. This is an early-career opportunity for someone with an architecture or engineering background to build expertise in building envelope performance and forensic consulting while contributing to high-impact client engagements. The Consultant supports investigations and diagnosis of building-envelope problems through site visits, field assessments, drawing and specification reviews, and analysis of building science data. The role contributes to root-cause analysis and the preparation of technical reports and repair or remediation recommendations. The Consultant works with multidisciplinary teams, communicates with clients, keeps current with relevant codes and standards, and manages multiple tasks with limited day-to-day supervision. The position is full-time and follows a hybrid schedule: four days a week in the office and one hybrid/remote day. Travel for site visits and field investigations may be required.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience with a facade consultant or manufacturer, architectural firm, building-envelope firm, engineering firm (structural, HVAC, or facade engineering), or similar organization.
  • Degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Mechanical/HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
  • Genuine interest in building-envelope performance, watertightness, moisture control, and mold-related issues in real estate.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, client-ready technical reports.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with limited supervision, while knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and field investigations as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status.
  • Background as an architect or as a facade, structural, or HVAC engineer.
  • Prior exposure to forensic or consulting engagements involving building-envelope failures, water intrusion, or mold remediation.
  • Familiarity with relevant building codes and standards, such as ASTM and local building codes, related to facades and moisture control.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in investigating, diagnosing, and resolving facade, building-envelope, watertightness, moisture, and mold-related issues for real estate clients.
  • Support site visits, field investigations, and visual or physical assessments of building-envelope conditions, including facades, cladding, windows, and roofing interfaces.
  • Review architectural, structural, and MEP/HVAC drawings and specifications to identify design or construction deficiencies that may contribute to moisture or envelope failures.
  • Analyze building science data, such as moisture readings, thermal imaging, and water-testing results, and contribute to root-cause analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports, findings summaries, and repair or remediation recommendations under the guidance of the Senior Managing Director.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, structural engineers, HVAC engineers, and facade specialists.
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information, clarify issues, and present findings as needed.
  • Stay current on building codes, industry standards, and best practices related to building-envelope design and moisture management.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, working independently with limited day-to-day supervision while keeping leadership informed of progress and issues.

Benefits

  • Mentorship and direct collaboration with senior leadership on high-visibility client engagements.
  • Exposure to a broad range of real estate asset types and building-envelope challenges.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development toward licensure or certification.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
