Requirements

  • Several years of relevant professional experience in customs, export control, international trade compliance, or a related advisory field, with the expertise required to independently advise clients on complex matters.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, customs procedures, trade compliance, and export control requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising internal or external stakeholders on complex regulatory and operational topics.
  • Experience in independently leading and delivering complex projects.
  • Ability to analyze existing customs and compliance processes, identify risks, and translate findings into practical improvement measures.
  • Experience developing or implementing customs, export control, or trade compliance programs, processes, or internal controls.
  • Strong client orientation and the ability to build credible, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to identify business opportunities and develop client needs into concrete consulting projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work confidently on complex and changing regulatory topics.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory topics clearly and pragmatically.
  • Ability and willingness to support less experienced colleagues through knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting business development activities, proposals, pitches, or commercial negotiations would be a strong advantage.
  • Experience dealing with customs authorities and other relevant regulatory institutions is an advantage.
  • Experience with topics such as CBAM, Intrastat, customs authorizations, audits, and regulatory reporting is advantageous.
  • Experience designing or delivering professional training and workshops is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients on complex customs, trade compliance, and export control matters.
  • Take ownership of challenging consulting projects from initial analysis through implementation and delivery.
  • Develop customized compliance strategies that have a direct impact on clients’ international operations.
  • Work closely with customers, authorities, internal specialists, and commercial teams across a broad range of industries.
  • Use expertise to turn commercial opportunities and qualified leads into valuable consulting engagements.
  • Contribute to the development of the Customs & Trade Compliance offering, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Share expertise with colleagues and support the development of less experienced consultants.
  • Build professional network and play an active role in the continued growth of the consulting business.
  • Independently advise and support clients on complex customs, export control, and trade compliance matters.
  • Lead consulting projects, assess existing customs and export control processes, identify regulatory risks and optimization opportunities, and develop practical, sustainable compliance solutions tailored to each client’s business.
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Actively identify new business opportunities and contribute to building a strong professional network within Customs & Trade Compliance.
  • Build trusted relationships with new and existing clients and act as a subject-matter expert throughout the commercial process.
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within existing customer accounts.
  • Take ownership of qualified Sales leads and use expertise to develop them into clearly defined consulting projects.
  • Work closely with Sales on complex and consultancy-led opportunities where subject-matter expertise is critical to winning the client.
  • Contribute to proposals, presentations, pitches, scopes of work, and other commercial materials.
  • Support contract discussions and the successful closing of consulting engagements.
  • Build long-term customer relationships that contribute to sustainable revenue growth.
  • Lead and manage complex client projects within Customs & Trade Compliance from scoping through implementation and completion.
  • Define project objectives, deliverables, responsibilities, and priorities together with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, at the required quality level, and in line with agreed objectives.
  • Identify project risks and dependencies early and take appropriate actions to keep delivery on track.
  • Coordinate internal specialists and external stakeholders involved in project delivery.
  • Advise and support clients in applications for import, export, transit, and other customs-related licences and authorizations.
  • Coordinate authorization procedures and ensure all relevant regulatory requirements are addressed.
  • Support clients throughout communication and interactions with the relevant authorities.
  • Help establish processes that ensure continued compliance with authorization requirements after implementation.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage internal and external customs and trade compliance audits.
  • Evaluate existing processes, controls, documentation, and governance against applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and develop appropriate corrective measures.
  • Support clients in implementing and monitoring remediation plans following audits or compliance assessments.
  • Continuously monitor developments in customs regulations, export controls, international trade agreements, and related compliance requirements.
  • Assess the potential business impact of regulatory changes on clients.
  • Proactively communicate relevant developments and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Translate regulatory complexity into clear and actionable guidance for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and analyze regular reports covering areas such as CBAM, Intrastat, authorizations, and other customs and compliance-related topics.
  • Use analytical findings to develop clear recommendations and identify potential compliance risks or improvement opportunities.
  • Review and prepare customs and export-related documentation.
  • Ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements and the expectations of relevant authorities, including bodies such as BAFA.
  • Act as a central point of contact between clients, internal teams, external partners, and relevant authorities.
  • Build strong relationships with senior client stakeholders and become a trusted advisor on Customs & Trade Compliance matters.
  • Coordinate closely with internal specialist teams to ensure integrated and high-quality client solutions.
  • Work with customer organizations to ensure agreed compliance measures are implemented effectively.
  • Support the integration of IT and compliance systems into existing customer processes where relevant.
  • Design and deliver customs, trade compliance, and export control training sessions and workshops for clients and colleagues.
  • Actively share expertise and best practices across the organization.
  • Support and mentor less experienced consultants in developing their technical and consulting capabilities.
  • Contribute to building consistent standards, methodologies, and ways of working within the Customs & Trade Compliance team.
  • Continuously develop own expertise to remain up to date with regulatory and market developments.
