About The Position

Reporting to the Manager Community Health and Wellbeing or the Supervisor Student Nutrition Program, the Consultant Nutrition Promotion plans, develops, implements, evaluates and coordinates the delivery of nutrition programs and services using a variety of health promotion strategies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from a recognized university with a major in community and/or public health nutrition or equivalent education.
  • Membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario is required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
  • Considerable experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion strategies across the lifespan.
  • Considerable experience in leading and organizing complex nutrition projects, effectively managing and meeting timelines for concurrent projects.
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, program planning and evaluation; leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include overtime, shift work, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice and consultation to Toronto Public Health management and staff, the Board of Health, external groups, community professionals, community leaders, the general public and the media on nutrition issues
  • Provides public health nutrition services to Toronto Public Health staff and the public
  • Assesses population and community health needs and analyzes information related to public health nutrition issues
  • Collaborates with Public Health program staff in strategic and operational planning for the development of nutrition related programs and services
  • Reviews and analyzes information and research related to nutrition programs, projects and new or emerging issues in food and nutrition areas for determining divisional and program specific goals and objectives
  • Coordinates and guides evidence-based reviews to determine effective public health nutrition interventions
  • Drafts and revises program plans, policies and procedures for management review/approval
  • Applies health promotion strategies, including healthy public policy and environmental support, to plan, implement and evaluate public health nutrition program initiatives
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of divisional programs and projects related to nutrition, health and wellbeing across the lifespan and prevention of chronic diseases
  • Promotes the implementation of nutrition related municipal, provincial and federal legislation and strategies
  • Develops policy recommendations e.g., legislation or policies on issues related to food and nutrition for consideration by the appropriate divisional group
  • Liaises, consults and works collaboratively with internal and external groups, agencies, organizations, committees, and partners, as appropriate
  • Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates nutrition programs and services as directed (e.g., projects/initiatives, partnerships, social media campaigns, presentations/trainings)
  • Participates in the planning and delivery of orientation and continuing education for staff and community professionals and the mentoring and training of students
  • Drafts, revises and/or recommends nutrition related resource materials for the public and divisional staff
  • Researches, prepares and presents reports, position papers, briefing notes, funding proposals, journal articles and correspondence for the division
  • Participates in applied nutrition research and field studies and epidemiological studies with a nutritional component
