About The Position

Baker Tilly is currently looking for a consultant to join our Municipal Advisory team located in Kansas City. In this role, you will collaborate with the team and leverage your technical expertise to evaluate and recommend solutions tailored to meet the needs of the client. Engaging with the client directly, you will manage strengthening existing relationships while identifying new business opportunities. Working alongside a team of experienced Municipal Advisors, you will have the opportunity to be coached by our team of industry leaders and allow for continued professional development to achieve your personal career goals.

Requirements

  • One (1) plus combined and/or concurrent years' experience in government finance, municipal advisory, financial analysis, economic research, or customer facing roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance or related field
  • Knowledge and ability to use appropriate tools, applications, and accounting and finance concepts to facilitate analysis.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Power BI and/or other analytical software suites
  • High motivation, initiative and positive attitude
  • Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities appropriately
  • Intermediate modeling and excel skills, experience conducting complex quantitative and qualitative financial analysis and ability to generate data-driven insights
  • Ability to work autonomously, to meet tight deadlines, and to thrive in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work effectively and thrive in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding and the ability to exceed client needs
  • Begin to establish and manage client relationships through professional service, following through prompt and proactive communication
  • Support project work with guidance from the team, keeping tasks organized, accurate, and completed on time
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner and have an understanding how to follow client and team instructions by asking questions when guidance is needed.
  • Communicate with clients, executive management and other sophisticated parties to ensure delivery of exceptional client service
  • Draft professional communications that include, but not limited to: Project Management, Business presentations, Executive communication, External communication
  • Collaborate with the Municipal Advisory team to expand the business within current and future markets
  • Maintain a customer focus throughout entire client engagement lifecycle
  • Build and maintain the Baker Tilly brand and reputation through the entire project / engagement lifecycle.
  • Develop internal peer network with other Baker Tilly teams
  • Develop professional network foundations (LinkedIn, alumni network, etc.).
  • Support sales efforts through research activities
  • Identify several periodicals, websites, podcasts, etc. that are focused on the industry you serve; commit to regularly reviewing content; try to identify and reflect important trends and developments
  • Assist in proposal development activities with internal and external constituents
  • Contribute to daily operations to maintain profitable business line
  • Demonstrate appropriate rigor and diligence in all required administrative processes and policies (time and expense entry, DayShape entries, performance reviews, continuing education, etc.)
  • Develop and understanding of firm economics (time and expense entry and management, billing/collections, forecasting, etc.)
  • Proactively seek billable and productive non-charge opportunities
  • Read Strategy 2.0 materials to determine which are most relevant to work; discuss any questions you have with your manager or coach
  • Understand the intersection of your team’s programs and services with the teams we support
  • Prepare client financial summaries and exhibits
  • Assist with budget, cash flow, debt, and capital planning analysis
  • Review financial, audit, bond, and meeting documents
  • Support bond issuance tasks and closing checklists
  • Research local government trends, statutes, and market data
  • Prepare client-ready presentations and summaries
  • Track project tasks, deadlines, and follow-ups
  • Join client meetings and document next steps
  • New hires will be expected to complete Series 50 municipal advisor training through and certification within 18 months of initial hiring date.
