About The Position

GMA, an independent CPA and advisory firm, is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Consultant to support its Forensic, Valuation and Litigation Support group. The role combines client-chargeable paraprofessional work with administrative support for partners and professional staff. The Consultant contributes directly to client engagements while helping the team remain organized and responsive. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in a law firm, accounting firm, or related professional services environment; can organize large volumes of records and work with financial information; and can follow assignments through with limited day-to-day direction once priorities and procedures are established. This is a partially billable role. Following onboarding, at least 50% of available working time is expected to be spent on client-chargeable work, with a target of 50–60% or more as engagement needs and assigned responsibilities allow. Remaining time supports practice administration and coordination. The Consultant must record all working time accurately and promptly, using clear descriptions and correct client or internal codes. Client time must relate to authorized engagement work and comply with engagement terms and firm billing guidelines; routine internal administration and business development support are nonbillable. This is a full-time, in-office position in Fairfax, Virginia. Consistent attendance and availability support document coordination, training, and timely client service. Occasional overtime may be needed to meet engagement deadlines. The role requires working at a computer for extended periods, managing electronic and physical records, and moving files and meeting materials, with reasonable accommodation as needed.

Requirements

  • At least three years of relevant paralegal, litigation support, or accounting support experience, including hands-on responsibility for client records and engagement deliverables.
  • Experience with litigation records, financial documents, or accounting systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize assignments, and follow through without repeated reminders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including professional interaction with clients and attorneys.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate time records in a billable environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF tools, including spreadsheets, document formatting, searchable files, and document organization.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods, manage electronic and physical records, and move files and meeting materials, with reasonable accommodation as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, accounting, business, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint.
  • Paralegal training, forensic accounting support, or document management software experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engagement letters and other client-related documents using approved templates, and route drafts for partner review and approval.
  • Export, organize, and check financial data in Excel, including bank, credit card, and investment records, tax returns, and accounting reports.
  • Prepare basic financial schedules, transaction summaries, and reconciliations under professional staff direction, and flag gaps or inconsistencies for review.
  • Catalogue, index, and maintain electronic and physical client records using consistent file names, document logs, and version controls.
  • Support billing and accounts receivable follow-up by assembling billing information and identifying missing time entries or supporting records.
  • Track project deadlines, outstanding information requests, and engagement status, and raise potential delays early.
  • Coordinate client and attorney communications, schedule meetings, and follow up on document requests as directed.
  • Provide administrative support to partners and professional staff, including correspondence, meeting materials, and engagement setup.
  • Assemble proposals and business development materials, maintain the group’s pipeline tracker, and prepare material for meetings with potential clients.
  • Assemble document chronologies, exhibits, and supporting schedules for reports, depositions, mediation, or trial under the engagement team’s direction.
  • Proofread and format reports, schedules, and presentations, and check that references agree with supporting documents.
  • Handle confidential client information carefully and follow firm procedures for secure storage, access, and document transfer.
  • Manage assigned tasks within agreed time budgets, communicate progress, and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Record working time accurately and promptly using clear descriptions and the correct client or internal codes.
