As a Consultant, Back End Application Development, you will join CIBC’s Application Development team, with responsibility to convert specifications about business requirements into programming instructions. Reviewing, analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and debugging primarily back-end Java/Spring Framework and Event Mesh based applications that support the enterprise customer information system. You will maintain records to document application development and will provide support for existing production applications. This role is comprised of approximately 20% design, 70% development, and 10% support and continuous improvement for customization, enhancement, modernization and maintenance related project work. At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you’ll be on-site full-time. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

Requirements

  • 9+ years experience in Java application development and support.
  • Technical understanding of Java/J2EE, SQL, SOAP-XML/REST-JSON, Microservices, YAML, XSD, UML, Spring, Spring boot, Event Driven Development, Solace/PubSub+, gRPC and Event Mesh platform, Linux/REHL, Docker, OpenShift, Unix Shell Scripts, File based processing apps, GitHub bash, GitHub CoPilot and AI powered applications, SVN, Maven/Ant, Junit, JIRA-Confluence, Scrum, Snyk, Sonar.
  • Work experience in Agile, Iterative and Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to articulate yourself clearly to technology partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Technical discipline.
  • Legally eligible to work at the location(s) specified and, where applicable, must have a valid work or study permit.

  • Perform and coordinate complex application programming activities, develop specifications, code, test, debug, document, and adjust in order to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of various application components.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of tools and toolkits for development and support of applications.
  • Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals, teams, and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
