About The Position

The Consult Coordinator will be responsible for managing pathology cases from outside medical facilities, including receiving, accessioning, tracking, and dispersing them. This role involves ordering various laboratory studies, preparing and sending materials to external labs for specialized testing, and managing the return of cases to submitting facilities. Additionally, the coordinator will handle scanning reports, creating invoices for research studies, retrieving cases for quality assurance review, and assisting with CLIA and credentialing processes. The position requires a high degree of accuracy, strong communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in computer applications and customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of previous laboratory accessioning experience or general pathology experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrated verbal and written command of the English language; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also function as part of a team
  • Ability to comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Working knowledge of computer applications
  • Demonstrated customer service focused skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks in a limited time frame

Responsibilities

  • Receive, accession, track and disperse pathology cases from outside medical facilities (COS cases)
  • Order special stains, molecular, cytogenetic studies as requested
  • Return COS cases to submitting medical facilities
  • Order and send PBM surgical material for molecular and cytogenetic studies at Med fusion
  • Send paraffin blocks from PBM surgical cases to outside labs for specialized testing
  • Send PBM surgical case slides to requesting institutions; Pull PBM surgical slides and send to BUMC for conference
  • Scan all generated reports, ie 2nd opinions, Oncotype reports, Agendia reports to the appropriate network drive
  • Create invoices for PBM cases for research studies
  • Retrieve and disperse cases for QA review (outside second opinions)
  • Assists with CLIA preparation and inspections as needed; Assists with credentialing/licensing as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
