About The Position

Participate in the construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of facilities/structures and parks; perform a variety of construction tasks involved in the renovation of wooden, concrete, brick or metal City buildings including rough and finish carpentry, masonry, block laying, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, minor welding, plastering, roofing, tiling, fence installation and sheetrock work and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding
Two (2) years general construction experience
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of construction tasks involved in the renovation of wooden, concrete, brick or metal City buildings including rough and finish carpentry, masonry, block laying, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, minor welding, plastering, roofing, tiling, fence installation and sheetrock work.
Perform interior and exterior rough carpentry for buildings, parks and facilities; frame building additions, stairs and ramps.
Construct cement structures and facilities including forms for sidewalks, drivepads, fence posts, gates, gutters, curbs, steps, walks, ramp landings; pour, level and finish cement.
Read and follow blueprints, sketches and diagrams to ensure project specifications are met.
Repair and remodel building interiors; install ceramic floor tiles, carpet and sheet vinyl; install paneling; repair, tape, texture and paint sheetrock.
Construct high-tensile fencing, chain link fencing and other fencing as required; operate hydraulic and power equipment.
Install and repair wood and metal doors, frames and windows; adjust or replace hinges, high security locksets and cores.
Perform finish carpentry; construct office furniture, cabinets, desks, shelving, conference tables, picture frames, ceiling and doors.
Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
Perform project lead supervision and training of laborers or helpers to accomplish construction tasks.
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
