About The Position

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Construction Technician 2 to work in Virginia. This position involves construction field inspection and testing of construction materials. Inspection areas include foundation inspection, concrete placement inspection, and quality control testing. Must be willing to travel and stay near projects within work area which could be in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina areas.

Requirements

Has advanced field operations skills; possesses computer skills, good visual and hearing skills, follows procedures; good organizational skills; working in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); works with safety in mind, must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100% during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/or work, able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods.
Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and rugged terrain. Exposure to active construction sites.
Capable of walking, hiking, or standing for extended periods during field and site visits.
Must be able to lift and carry tools, equipment, technical samples, documents, and other materials weighing up to 40–50 pounds.
Frequent bending, crouching, and climbing may be required during fieldwork and sample collection.
Ability to safely operate and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as helmets, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and boots as required by site safety protocols.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity to handle technical tools, read maps and instruments, observe site conditions, and document findings accurately.
Comfortable working in remote or isolated locations, sometimes for extended durations.
Comfortable working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as required by specific project sites.
May require driving long distances to field sites and operating vehicles on unpaved or uneven roads.

Responsibilities

Work with minimal oversight after receiving appropriate training
Interface with clients and contractors on-site.
Inspect foundations for adherence to specifications.
Sample and test concrete for quality control.
Complete forms and write inspection reports.
Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.
Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
Collect soil, asphalt and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary report.
Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.
Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards.
Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and / or technical drawings.
Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients
May lead projects and tasks
Can work independently or lead crews when necessary.
Possesses effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff, communicates effectively with clients, field representatives, able to motivate others, ability to function positively in a team environment, able to keep teams working harmoniously.
