About The Position

Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety professionals who combine technical excellence with strong client relationships. As the industry evolves, Michael Baker seeks professionals who can both deliver projects and help grow trusted client partnerships. Michael Baker is seeking a Construction Specialist in Pittsburgh (based out of the Moon Township office) to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex infrastructure projects while also supporting client development and business growth. This seller-doer role manages construction operations from pre‑construction through project closeout, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 5+ years of construction experience on transportation or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, contract administration, and public agency requirements
  • Experience managing contractors, inspectors, and multi‑disciplinary project teams
  • Proficiency with construction documentation, schedules, and reporting tools
  • Experience working directly with clients in a consultative or advisory capacity
  • Interest in or experience supporting proposals, client development, or seller–doer roles
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferred
  • Experience in PADEP rules and regulations, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day construction activities for infrastructure projects including roadway, drainage, utilities, aviation, transit, or other public works improvements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with owners, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders
  • Oversee contractor performance, construction sequencing, and field operations to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Monitor project budgets, review pay applications, prepared and recommend change orders, forecast costs, and prepare monthly reports to clients
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control procedures
  • Conduct progress meetings and prepare project documentation, reports, and correspondence
  • Coordinate with design teams to address constructability issues, RFIs, and design clarifications
  • Identify risks and proactively resolve construction challenges to minimize delays and cost impacts
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and documentation
  • Identify follow-on work, contract extensions, and new opportunities through active engagement on current projects
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, SOQs, and interviews, including technical approaches, staffing plans, and cost inputs
  • Develop “lessons learned” for future projects and to support future client needs
