Construction Site Safety Manager/Trainer (SSHO)
About The Position
RQ Construction is seeking a Construction Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support military construction projects in San Diego County. The SSHO will oversee all aspects of jobsite safety, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, EM-385 standards, OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP). This role involves close collaboration with project leadership to maintain a safe and productive work environment and may include supervising direct reports. As a field-based position, on-site presence is required, and travel to assigned projects may be necessary.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of applied commercial construction work experience or equivalent
- Competent Person training or demonstrated experience in areas including Fall Protection, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Excavation/Trenching, Scaffolding, and PPE required. Additional related degrees or certifications may be considered in place of Competent Person training.
- Minimum of 5 consecutive years of documented safety training averaging at least 24 hours annually
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet applications required
- Current CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30 certifications (completed within the past 5 years) required
Nice To Haves
- Combination of construction field experience, safety training, and/or Occupational Safety and Health certifications from OSHA Training Institutes or other recognized safety organizations
- Professional safety credentials such as CHST, OHST, or ASP through BCSP may be qualifying
- At least 5 years of construction safety management experience at the project-site level preferred
- Previous experience with NAVFAC, USACE, and EM385-1-1 clients strongly preferred
- Familiarity with RMS/QCS and Viewpoint software preferred
Responsibilities
- Overseeing all aspects of jobsite safety
- Ensuring compliance with contract requirements, EM-385 standards, OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP)
- Working closely with project leadership to help maintain a safe and productive work environment
- Supporting quality construction operations
- Supervising assigned direct reports as needed
