About The Position
Electric utility construction site coordinators work on-site to observe, report, and coordinate all construction activities within electrical substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems. This role involves overseeing electrical contractors working on above and below-grade electric transmission and distribution facilities and in electric substations, as well as civil contractors supporting these efforts. The work includes construction and modifications to these facilities. The position entails working in the field, providing oversight of the contractor’s operations. Administrative tasks are highly electronic and include tracking contractors’ labor and equipment, reviewing invoices and change orders, generating detailed daily reports, tracking and inventorying materials, preparing and reviewing switching orders, and other coordination tasks. Work routinely involves 8 to 10-hour days, 5 to 6 days a week, and often involves driving long distances. Use of fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment is required and provided. Use of a company vehicle is also required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or Equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Flexibility with work hours, must be able to work long hours, nights, and weekends when necessary
- Knowledge of electrical substations and electrical transmission and distribution systems
- Ability to interact and communicate with others in a professional and effective manner
- Ability to write technically on subject matter
- Ability to read and understand all pertinent documents, including plans, specifications, and scope documents
- Ability to perform all basic engineering math
- Ability to use a computer and computer programs at a high level, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Email, etc.
- Ability to execute and pass all training
- Experience working in the Construction/Electrical/Utility field
- Must be able to work on-site in an outdoor setting with various types of terrain
- Requires walking, bending, and standing throughout the workday
Nice To Haves
- Experience working for an electric utility, as a substation electrician or as a lineman
- Experience performing construction inspection
Responsibilities
- Oversight of electrical contractors working on above and below-grade electric transmission and distribution facilities and in electric substations
- Oversight of civil contractors working in support of the electrical contractors
- Construction of and modifications to below and above-grade facilities, including work in electrical substations and overhead facilities in private and public Right-Of-Way
- Tracking contractors’ labor and equipment
- Reviewing invoices and change orders
- Generating detailed daily reports
- Tracking and doing inventory on materials
- Preparing and reviewing switching orders
- Coordinating and facilitating the work
