About The Position

The Facilities Technician performs work to ensure a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing exterior to Wake County’s Downtown buildings and parking decks. This role involves transporting and operating sweeper trucks, sweeper scrubber machines, and power equipment such as blowers, power washers, and vacuums, as well as miscellaneous hand tools to clean hard surfaces. Responsibilities include picking up leaves and trash, cleaning interior lobbies, foyers, elevators, and stairways, removing graffiti, cleaning and performing preventative maintenance on equipment, preparing county property for adverse weather and other events, applying brine, salt, and deicing compounds, and cleaning up and restoring county properties after damage.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in construction or heavy equipment operation
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair and maintenance
  • Advanced skills in operating various types of handheld power tools and equipment such as sweepers / scrubbers
  • Knowledge of cleaning products for tools
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and PPE to conform with OSHA requirements
  • Ability to use computers and software applications to record time and material expenses
  • Ability to firmly adhere to codes of conduct and ethical principles
  • Ability to use good judgment in order to carry out detailed instructions from a supervisor
  • Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions and actively work to resolve issues with sound judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

  • Technical certificate in a construction related field
  • FO - Forklift Operator License/Certificate or must obtain within one year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Pick up leaves and trash, clean ash urns and change trash liners at various locations
  • Clean interior lobbies, foyers, elevators and stairways.
  • Remove graffiti from interior and exterior of buildings
  • Clean and perform preventative maintenance on equipment and maintain records
  • Prepare county property for adverse weather, civil protests and unplanned events
  • Apply brine, salt and deicing compounds
  • Clean up and restore county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests or other unplanned events
